Professional Experience

Mrs. Calbaum has taught choir/general music at Swallow School for 5 years. She was previously a K-6 general music/choir teacher in the Elmbrook School District for 9 years and a 1-12 general music/choir teacher in the Cedar Grove-Belgium district for 3 years. Besides teaching public school, Mrs. Calbaum has been a graduate level music education class instructor, church choir director/accompanist, MSO docent instructor, Wisconsin Music Educators Association Listening Project chairperson and a presenter at various music conventions.


Mrs. Calbaum has a Bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master’s Degree in music education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She has also accumulated over 25 graduate credits beyond her Master’s Degree in advanced education and music classes.

Personal Life

Mrs. Calbaum enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, singing, playing the piano, attending the theater, and gardening.

Mrs. Calbaum’s passion is not only teaching children music but also building a love and understanding of music.

Andrew Joseph

Andrew Joseph is serving his second year as the instrumental music director, and 5th-8th grade general music teacher at Swallow School. Mr. Joseph is a graduate of The Ohio State University, where he had the opportunity to perform in numerous venues across the United States as a member of several OSU ensembles. His principle instrument is the trombone.

Mr. Joseph's philosophy of music education centers around educating the whole child, not just the student performer. His research interests include cross-curricular learning, arts integration, reading and writing in the content area, and music performance for special education students. He is adviser to Swallow's African Drum Club and Chess and Game Club, and is an assistant basketball coach.

Mr. Joseph holds memberships in both the National Association for Music Education and the Wisconsin Music Educators Association. He lives in Wauwatosa and enjoys exploring the Midwest, cooking and experiencing music from around the world. He also serves on the board of the Ohio State Alumni Club of Wisconsin.
