Professional Experience

I graduated from U.W. LaCrosse with a degree in Physical and Health education and then was hired by Swallow in 1990.  I then attended U.W. Milwaukee and earned my Elementary Education degree which allowed me to move into the 5th grade classroom.  I also hold a masters degree in Professional Development from U.W. LaCrosse.

Personal Life

I love all things outdoors and active.  I spend my free time biking, running, hiking and cross country skiing.  When I am not outdoors I can be found reading a good historical fiction book or numerous nonfiction titles.  I have 2 kids who are growing up too fast.  Julia is entering her second year of college and Thomas will be a senior this school year. My husband is a teacher at Arrowhead in the math department.

Welcome to fifth grade! I’ve been teaching since 1994. I began my career as an elementary Spanish teacher. I was hired at Swallow School in 2000, where I taught third grade for 17 years and then switched to fifth grade in 2017. I graduated from UW-Whitewater in 1994 with a major in Elementary Education, grades 1-9, and a Spanish minor. In 2002, I earned my Master's Degree in
Reading from UW-Whitewater. I have since taken courses through Viterbo University, and I earned my Reading Specialist license in 2013. I consider myself a life-long learner and truly value the opportunity for everyone to be inspired to learn.

I have two teenage children. I enjoy spending my free time being involved in their lives and activities, as well as reading, going for walks, and watching movies. I'm confident that you will agree; Swallow School is a great place to be!

Welcome to 5th grade!  My name is Sue Peterson and  I will be your child’s 5th grade teacher this year.  I have been at Swallow for 18 years and most of those years have been in 5th grade! Before coming to Swallow I

spent some time in 7th grade and also as a math specialist at LaFollette School in Milwaukee. I am a proud UW-LaCrosse alumni where I completed my undergraduate degree in Elementary/Middle Education (1-8), with a minor in Social Studies. I went on to further my education by receiving a Master's degree from UW-LaCrosse in Professional Development.

When I am not at school I love to be active. I like to hike, golf and waterski. We have a cabin in Door County where I spend much of the summer but I can also often be found riding my bike around Hartland. When inside I like to cook or curl up with a good book.  My husband and I enjoy spending time with our 3 children who all attended Swallow, Arrowhead and then all graduated from UW-LaCrosse.

I love my job and continually strive to make each year better than the year before.  I am looking forward to an exciting year with your child!
